The Gentleman’s Guide to Online Purchases

If we look around, we can see that there is a fair amount of shopping taking place online. I personally am a huge fan of ordering books and clothing online. Why, because it saves me time, money, and less frustration. If only it was that easy all the time. Yesterday I was talking with a friend about style and fashion. She explained to me that she had ordered a dress online and when she received it, it looked nothing like what she saw online. I asked her several questions about the material and most of all if there was a good return policy for her dress. A long story short, she was out of luck.

I know none of you are going to be ordering a dress for yourself anytime soon, but what does a dapper gentleman do when it comes to making online clothing purchases? In the end every guy wants to save money, time, make good purchases and decrease their frustration. So here’s a question for you and I would love to hear about your experience. Have you ever made an online clothing purchase? If so, how did it turn out for you? Did you get what you ordered?

Despite all the modern advances when it comes to online shopping, most gentlemen end up frustrated, spend too much, and end up keeping a piece of clothing that doesn’t fit. Here are some common statements I hear: “It didn’t look like the picture.” “It was the wrong fit and it cost me $20.00 to send it back.” Gentlemen, today we are going to make sure you’re satisfied with your online purchases. To help you save more time, money, and get solid quality clothing I want to suggest that you use the following when considering online purchases for men’s clothing.

Create Your List. Guys this is extremely important when it comes to online purchases for clothing. I suggest you make a list of core items for your wardrobe that you need or want. When you start looking online, it’s a good idea to have the list in front of you. This list will help you remain focused and save you time while looking for the right shirt, trousers, shorts, or tie.

Create a Budget. Have a price in mind. Something that will help you when shopping online for your clothing is to have a set price for that particular piece of clothing. Look for coupons and discounts before you finalize your purchase. They are out there.

Look for Quality. Shopping for quality in a store is pretty easy and time consuming. We have the advantage of feeling the material, checking the stitching, and more. Making a purchase online is slightly different and a little harder to tell what’s real quality. One of the best ways to purchase quality online is to stick with a brand that is known for its quality. A couple of examples are J. Crew, Ralph Lauren, or Brooks Brothers.

Fit is Priority. Trying to find your actual size on the web used to be extremely hard. Now the majority of most websites are able to give you your actual size. This is why it is so important to know your measurements. Trust me, it pays off.

Return Policies Matter. Honestly, the price can be right, but if the online store you’re purchasing from doesn’t have a good return policy, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Comparing prices is a good skill to have, but spend time investigating the return policies. This will save you money and heartache.

Consider Solid Protection. There is so much wed fraud and hackers out there and it seems to be increasing. Please be careful anytime you make a purchase on the web. One area to consider is how you pay for your purchases. I recommend that you do not pay with a debit card. Use a credit card with great protection policies or use Paypal, who has solid protection that you can trust.

Please know guys that none of these tips are “fail safe.” These are here to assist you and hopefully help you land some great articles of clothing. I’d love to hear from you and how your online shopping experience went. Did you use any of these suggestions? If so which ones and did they work for you?
